No you can still train her to walk on a leash. You should definitely do that. It isn’t good to have them outside any ways. Get a leash.
You could tie a long piece of yarn or string around your ankle so whenever your walking your cat can chase it! I’ve done it before, its funny! Sounds like she get a lot already, but you know what’s good for your cat. So, just try that idea and see how it does. Good luck!
i get a foxtail on a plastic stick that my cat loves to chase. i keep it in the closet where IT LIVES
and he always looks forward to me pulling it out. If he catches it, i let him carry it away, but i yank it a few times as if its alive, and then at the last second I rip it away and he goes crazy chasing it back to th closet. they sell them at petco. also, i put him on top of the door, i let him pull himself up. hes now super strong in his upper body. im 6′1 though you may not reach.
ive used these same techniques for 5 years now and my cat is a really happy cat
Shes fine. You can get a laser pointer which is much better then just a light. Make sure though you don’t shine the light from the laser in her eye because it can cause damage. Just shine it on the floor and watch her go!
I also like a simple toy called a cat dancer. Its under $5 in the pet stores or at petsmart.com. Ive seen many cats love it so much they carry it and drag it around with them lol
Don’t bring her outside. Cats get exposed to so many illnesses outdoors. If shes been inside this long let her stay inside. Cats do very very well inside the home with love, good food, plenty of water and some toys.
I had a 20-year old Calico who also was strickly an indoor cat.
Of course, the area they have to exercise in is restricted by the size of the house or apartment but, one thing about cats, they are resourceful. The cat knows when it’s up to needing a little exercise as well as when it needs a LOT of sleep.
Running back and forth is typical and good exercise for your cat and it will stop when it has had enough. Now, encouragement to get your cat to exercise more could be in the form of you playing with your cat frequently with it’s favorite toys…leaving it’s toys available for the cat to play with when it feels like it, and also things like taking an old, clean sock and putting in some fresh Catnip, tie the sock into a big knot and throw it down on the floor…the Catnip will certainly attrack your cat to the sock and you might find it plays with that sock, throwing it around and such a lot more than usual.
Remember that cats are independent and make pretty good use of their time and space and there’s not too much we need to do except to keep them healthy, well fed, well groomed, flea-less and available to receive the love they will give you in return.
I can’t help but notice one thing you mention….
“She is already too old….”
NOTE:
My cat Maya finally succumbed to CRF, Chronic Renal Failure.
If there is one tip I would give you is to be sure you take your cat to the Vet for frequent or annual blood tests which will detect the onset of CRF, very common in older cats, before it gets to a crisis level and can be treated.
you can get her a couple of toys. i got my cat a bucket of “marinated mice.” they are little toy mice that come in a bucket of cat n*p. you can do the same thing yourself for like 2 dollars. and she loves to play with them. cats only need about 12 minutes of exercise a day.
A big open paper bag, a carton with some holes to climb through and some peep holes, a crumpled piece of aluminun foil that she can bat around, a carpeted scratch post that she can also climb on, a piece of carpet affixed to a wall that she can climb up. You can buy a plastic ball that you put dry treats in. there are little holes in it so as the cat bats the ball some of the treats fall out. Hide a treat in a shoe box with the lid on and let the cat figure how to get it out. I would only have one or two going for a few days then switch so it doesn’t become boring and also doesn’t clutter the apartment.
wind up mice or good or cars or they love jumping so get some think like a plank of wood and on the over side it fave toy or food it jump to get to you if u call!!
have fun :]
