Having seen this in our cats it happened as one of the cats got older. Just like humans they have aches and pains and get irritable.
Talk to your vet - could be a bad tooth or something.
Our cats do this periodically. I suppose rathar like a brother sister spat or something. They eventually stop.
There can only be one alpha cat in the house. You may be seeing a reordering of who is the alpha one. Generally, this will have hissing and growling, but no blood will be drawn.
If this continues, see which cat is at a disadvantage, and see if there is a medical problem with that cat. An ill cat can be recognized by the other cat and is an opportunity to dominate.
